3 Witch Sisters of Oz

I saw "Oz the Great & Powerful" last month, and it was great . Despite its predictable storyline, it was fun to watch, and a delight to see how things were in Oz before Dorothy arrived. (I actually had no idea how handsome James Franco was. When he's not the son of the Green Goblin, he's actually pretty hot). It was especially fun seeing how they interpreted the 3 witches in the story before they became the ladies we knew later. I used the Heroine Fan-art maker [link] to imitate them here. It seemed appropriate, seeing as you can create Disney heroines with that game, and this was a Disney movie .

I don't know who's the oldest, though the various sites about the movie DID say that Theodora is the youngest, so I'll start with Evanora.

It was interesting seeing Evanora (the one on the left), because you don't get to see what the Wicked Witch of the East looks like in WOZ, save for her feet. So whoever developed the movie had a lot of free reign with what she would look and behave like. She's also played by an actress I know well; Rachel Weisz. I first saw her in "The Mummy." It was also interesting how Evanora's a redhead, and dresses in the green of Emerald City, and later in blacks that reflect her evil, power-mad personality. It was difficult reproducing her dress, since she had 2, and they are such an odd design. I finally settled on what you see here. I made her headdress out of leaves and a jewel, and tried making her sleeves imitate see-through black lace with sparkles.

With Glinda, they went back to the book versions of her, rather than the redhead in the big poofy pink dress we all know. So instead, she's got blond hair, a crown made of silver leaves, and much simpler, pretty white dresses to show that she's on the good side. I thought it was especially cute that she and Oscar (our future Wizard) had a little romance later in the movie. It took me some time to choose which dress to put on her, since she wore 3 similar ones. I finally settled on the one Glinda wears when she travels in a bubble with Oscar. It was relatively easy compared to the other 2 witches.

Now as for Theodora, she's the youngest of the three witch sisters. All three are daughters of the former king of Oz, so all three, I guess, are royalty in addition to being witches. When I first saw the commercials for "Oz, the Great and Powerful," I kept wondering who the girl with the red coat and big red hat was. I didn't remember ANYONE like that in the Oz books, so who was she? I had my answer soon before the movie came out. She was a witch who hadn't chosen sides in the conflict between her older sisters. I'm guessing she chose red due to her fire magic, something she had been trying to control. The outfit she wore when we first see her was supposed to be a "riding habit," though you never really see what kind of creature she was riding. It has a real 1930s/40s feel about the clothing style. Theodora is played by Mila Kunis, which was a big deal for everyone, after the fame she got from being in "Black Swan" (GOD I hate that movie! ). For a while there, I thought the actress was Indian, but she's actually Eastern European. Theodora is the future Wicked Witch of the West. Her transformation was caused by a combination of Oscar foolishly breaking her heart, and Evanora corrupting her with a terrible spell. I actually had trouble with Theodora's outfit, because she wears a white blouse that folds in the front like a bathrobe, and the only shirt that did that in the Heroine Fan-art maker had wider sleeves, so they show through her red jacket. I made her hat out of red beads, and it was much easier than trying to make her gigantic black hat from later in the story.
