Description

This is a new collage I decided to make, to show all the changes Queen Elsa went through while Disney's Frozen was being developed. I used the Snow Queen Dress-Up game on Azalea's Dolls: www.azaleasdolls.com/snowqueen… All these ladies are based on concept art, save for the last version of Elsa that we've all come to love ;)

Going from left to right, this was the Snow Queen with dark teal skin draped in furs with a snowflake crown I saw in some of the earliest concept art.  In Hans Christian Andersen's story, Gerda (she's the character Princess Anna's based on) and the Snow Queen weren't even related, and were adversaries.  Disney changed that idea by having both of them grow up as sisters, and even gave the Snow Queen the name Elsa.  However, later concept art shows that she had blue skin with purplish-blue hair, even as a child.  (I guess it was a stark way of showing she had magic powers).  I found several artworks that show Elsa with blue skin & dark blue or purple hair, and the studio wanted to base her character off of Bette Midler (I'm so glad they didn't).  At that stage she was still an adversary of Anna, and I guess Disney studios realized she still looked too much like a hybrid of Jimmy Neutron & Hades from Disney's Hercules.  So they made her look more human with fair skin, but she then had black hair, was not as evil, but a very jealous older sis.  No doubt she envied Anna for being able to go out in public, make friends, and find love.  Then they gave her blond hair.  Then I heard from somebody how the writing of Let It Go changed the entire design of Elsa's character, turning her into a more sympathetic person that everyone could relate to.  They made her more attractive, got rid of that awful cone hair, and made her pretty.

And there you have the lovely Queen Elsa that we all know and love today.

Am I the only one who noticed that Frozen has a lot of similarity to Prince of Egypt, I mean think about it. The main focus of Frozen is Elsa and Anna's relationship, the main focus of Prince of Egypt is the relationship between Moses and Ramesses. In many ways, they are similar. Don't believe me, try making a comparison of both films and tell me I'm wrong.
