Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt

Description

Here is Artemis, the Greek goddess who hunted at night. People remember her better by her Roman name, which was Diana. The moon and the stag (male deer) were her symbols. She was twin sister to Apollo, god of healing and music, and a few times, in some myths, they would team up to punish mortals for being insolent.

Artemis was a virgin goddess, and a protector of children. When ancient Greek children turned 7, they were considered "youths," or young adults. They would go with their parents to the local temple or shrine to Artemis & leave their toys as offerings to herald their coming of age and the end of childhood.

Artemis was usually shown wearing short skirts & ready to fire her arrows in the nightly hunts she engaged in. The bow in the picture was the hardest part b/c I had to make sure the string was straight. Had to hold up a straight-edge to my computer screen to get it right, lol.
